A CV that travels well: make your experience legible across markets

International hiring is not about sanding off what makes your path distinctive. It is about helping a reader understand your impact without local context.

Lead with the work, not the translation.

Job titles and seniority labels do not travel consistently. A “manager” in one organization may lead a team; elsewhere the title signals an individual contributor. Use a short profile to state your area, scope and strongest evidence. Then make each role's responsibilities and results understandable on their own.

Give numbers their context.

A number without a frame can confuse a reader. Instead of listing a budget or audience alone, explain its scale: the number of markets, team members, customers, or the size of the change. When figures are sensitive, use honest ranges and relative outcomes. Credibility is built by context, not precision theater.

Translate the local shorthand.

Expand acronyms on first use. Explain a regional program, regulator or funding mechanism in one clause if it matters to your accomplishment. You are not expected to erase local expertise; a small amount of context lets more people recognize its value.

Choose a format that survives screening.

A simple, text-based document is easier for both people and applicant systems to read. Use clear headings, a consistent date format, and a restrained amount of design. Include languages with an honest level of proficiency and note work authorization only where it is relevant and accurate.

Make your evidence easy to find.

For each recent role, select two or three outcomes that match the kind of work you want next. Use active language, describe your contribution, and avoid making a whole team result sound like an individual achievement. The strongest international CV does not claim to be universal; it gives a busy reader a fair chance to understand you.
